The Vietnamese textile and garment sector expects its export value to reach US$24.5-25 billion this yearAccording to Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group (Vinatex) General Director Le Tien Truong, in the first nine months of 2014, the export value of Vietnamese textiles and garments reached US$17.2 billion, a rise of 19 percent compared with the same period last year. Vinatex alone exported about US$2.6 billion worth of products in the first three quarters of 2014 and its export value is expected to reach US$3.4 billion by the year’s end. Since the beginning of this year, the textile and garment sector has maintained strong growth in exports to traditional markets such as the US, the EU, Japan and the Republic of Korea. The growth of Vietnamese textile and garment exports to these markets was even higher than the growth of their textile and garment imports. Specifically, Vietnamese textile and garment exports to the US grew about 15 percent while the value of textiles and garments imported by the US increased by a mere 3.9 percent.
