Nikon, Sony, and others form alliance to make smart cameras play NICE

Android phones can run the same applications regardless of whether the brand behind the phone is Samsung or Google — but what if smart cameras had the same compatibility? On March 6, Foxconn, Nikon, Scenera, Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation, and Wistron announced an agreement to develop an ecosystem that could bring Android-like compatibility to smart cameras. It’s called the Network of Intelligent Camera Ecosystem (NICE) Alliance . The agreement aims to create smart camera standards and to develop a shared cloud infrastructure. Cameras with NICE specifications would store images and video in the cloud, with NICE handling standardized encryption and AI processing for object recognition . David Lee, the CEO of Scenera , the California-based startup spearheading the development of the new standard, says the idea is to bring Android-like compatibility to all manner of smart cameras, from security cameras to baby monitors , along with embedded cameras on personal … [Read more...] about Nikon, Sony, and others form alliance to make smart cameras play NICE

Nikon is offering free online photography classes through the end of the year

Editor's take: Knowing how to adjust lighting, tweak settings and properly compose a shot are useful skills for anyone, not just a pro photographer or someone using a Nikon-branded camera. Given how far along mobile camera technology has come in just a few short years, it’s now possible to get stunning shots with modern smartphone cameras when taking manual control of them. Nikon was among the first companies to make its online photography classes available for free at the onset of the pandemic. For the month of April, nearly a dozen Nikon School Online courses ranging in length from about 15 minutes to over an hour were available to view absolutely free. F4 driver Fraga wins McLaren’s Shadow Project

Igor Fraga beat two other finalists in a 12-lap virtual race around Sebring to become McLaren's Shadow Project champion. It is the second major Esports competition Fraga has won, following his success in the FIA Gran Turismo Sport Nations Cup tournament last November. Following his victory, Fraga said his switch to Esports was a way of furthering his motor racing career, which had stalled through a lack of money. "I hope to continue racing this year, but it's difficult for me to get onto the track - it's a very expensive sport and I come from a humble family," Fraga told Motorsport.com. "This was one of the reasons why I entered the McLaren Shadow Project competition. "The Esports scene has grown a lot in recent years - it's much more accessible for people to play and it's getting closer to the real thing. I thought it might give me a new opportunity." Fraga beat six other finalists over a week of trials, which included physical and psychological tests, … [Read more...] about F4 driver Fraga wins McLaren’s Shadow Project
