China’s national library gears up for World Book Day
Video Player Close BEIJING, April 13 (Xinhua) -- The National Library of China will hold various activities to celebrate the 26th World Book Day, which falls on April 23. A series of lectures, exhibitions and performances centering on the centenary of the Communist Party of China will be organized around the day, including an artistic event to tell Party history stories on April 18, according to the library. Also on offer will be a reading activity at the Summer Palace on World Book Day, making use of the charming and historic scenery to provide an immersive reading experience for members of the public. Uber reported bookings for its ride-hailing business rose 9 percent in March
Uber saw record gross bookings in March 2021, according to a filing posted Monday with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The increase may signal the beginning of a comeback for the ride-hailing business, which suffered mightily in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. Uber’s mobility segment, which includes its ride-hailing business, was up 9 percent between February and March 2021, with an annualized run rate of $30 billion. Uber’s food delivery segment UberEats, which helped the company stave off even bigger losses in 2020, doubled its annual run rate from March of last year, coming in at $52 billion. “As vaccination rates increase in the United States, we are observing that consumer demand for Mobility is recovering faster than driver availability, and consumer demand for Delivery continues to exceed courier availability,” Uber said in the SEC filing. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern signs condolence book for Prince Philip
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has signed Prince Philip’s condolence book, thanking him for a life of service on behalf of all New Zealanders. The Duke of Edinburgh was Britain's longest-serving consort as the husband of Queen Elizabeth II. He died on Friday night , aged 99. On Monday, Ardern signed his condolence book in Wellington, writing: “With deepest sympathy and gratitude for a life of service. Me te aroha tino nui atu (my deepest sympathy).” Speaking after she signed the book, Ardern said the Duke lived a life of service. Condolence book for Prince Philip set up in Christchurch
Cantabrians will be able to write their own personal messages in a condolence book set up following the death of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Philip, Britain's longest serving consort as the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, died on Friday. He was 99. On Sunday, Christchurch mayor Lianne Dalziel announced a condolence book would be set up at Tūranga library in the central city, “so that people can write their own personal messages”.
