Pittsburgh Weather: Foggy Start, Warmer Afternoon Temperatures

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Yesterday we saw just over a tenth of an inch of rain falling. That rain, along with quickly clearing skies in the overnight hours and light winds has allowed fog to form in spots this morning. READ MORE: Majority Of Penguins Players, Coaches Receive COVID-19 Vaccines At PPG Paints Arena Clinic The thickest of fog seems to be centered in Butler county as of the time of me writing this blog. (Photo Credit: KDKA Weather Center) Fog should burn off by the 9:00 a.m. hour, leaving partly sunny skies for the rest of the day. There is a low rain chance this morning as a weak boundary extending off of an upper low drifts to the east. (Photo Credit: KDKA Weather Center) I consider today a transition day as yesterday’s upper low was absorbed back into the jet stream and another dominant upper low moves our way, located just north of Minnesota. There is a rain band extending out from the upper low into western Pennsylvania. This is likely … [Read more...] about Pittsburgh Weather: Foggy Start, Warmer Afternoon Temperatures

Biden’s chip dreams face reality check of supply chain complexity

SAN FRANCISCO: To understand President Joe Biden 's challenge in taming a semiconductor shortage bedeviling automakers and other industries, consider a chip supplied by a U.S. firm for Hyundai Motor Co's new electric vehicle, the IONIQ 5. Production of the chip, a camera image sensor designed by On Semiconductor, begins at a factory in Italy, where raw silicon wafers are imprinted with complex circuitry. The wafers are then sent first to Taiwan for packaging and testing, then to Singapore for storage, then on to China for assembly into a camera unit, and finally to a Hyundai component supplier in Korea before reaching Hyundai's auto factories. A shortage of that image sensor has led to the idling of Hyundai Motor's plant in South Korea, making it the latest automaker to suffer from global supply woes that crippled production at most automakers including General Motors Co and Ford Motors Co and Volkswagen . And the winding journey of the image sensor shows just how … [Read more...] about Biden’s chip dreams face reality check of supply chain complexity

Fukushima ‘failings’ add fuel to fire of world’s anti-nuclear movement

A fifth of the UK’s energy comes from nuclear but opposition to the power source persists. Environmentalists say the best argument against nuclear energy are Fukushima and Chernobyl . They say whilst the risks of accidents are tiny, the impact if something goes wrong can be devastating - and the fall-out over what to do with millions of tonnes of water used to cool the power station at Fukushima illustrates that global public confidence in nuclear energy still needs repair. There are always going to be bigger safety concerns about nuclear energy compared to say wind or solar. That coupled mainly with cost issues means environmental groups like Greenpeace are opposed to the building of new nuclear power stations. Advertisement Nuclear energy is expensive, largely due to the safety systems needed, while the cost of renewables like solar fall year on year. The world is being urged to turn its back on fossil fuels like coal and favour low … [Read more...] about Fukushima ‘failings’ add fuel to fire of world’s anti-nuclear movement

Sahayb Abu, 27, used Covid benefits to buy an 18-inch sword, body armour, a Persian Qama knife, and a combat hat and gloves. The rapper, who branded himself as The Masked Menace, was convicted at the Old Bailey last month of plotting a terrorist act. He has today been caged for life with a minimum of 19 years. His older brother Muhamed Munye Abu, 32, was acquitted of failing to disclose Sahayb’s terrorist intentions to authorities. The pair had been jailed for two years after being caught breaking into a jewellery store in February 2018. No one gives a s**t about a dead cop. That’s all they’re good for...Dying!! Sahayb Abu It was just weeks after his release in March last year that Sahayb started boasting about launching a terror attack after mixing with extremists in jail.
