SIXTEEN months after their last release and following more than a year of lockdown misery for the music business, COLDPLAY look set to be back with a bang soon. I revealed in February how the band had teased the name of a prospective new album, Music Of The Spheres, on some editions of their chart-topping 2019 collection Everyday Life. They then applied to trademark Music Of The Spheres. Since then, things have continued to swirl behind the scenes. Official documents now show the band have formally applied to use the name on recorded music, merchandise, clothing and printed materials in the US. Paperwork Stateside shows Chris Martin , Jonny Buckland , Guy Berryman and Will Champion are currently stuck in a legal wrangle with officials over the use of the branding. Records show the application was initially declined, but is now “suspended” until a patent is secured in the UK — which appears imminent after their claim to the name was published by the Intellectual … [Read more...] about Coldplay album edges closer after legal wrangle over Music Of The Spheres

The Sopranos cast now – tragedy, failed music career and vegan pasta sauces
The Sopranos has been heralded as the best series of all time. The American crime drama first burst onto our screens in January 1999 and due to its incredible popularity ran on HBO for a whopping 86 episodes until 2007. Despite going down in history as one of the best TV shows ever devised, the creator of the cult Mafia series did reveal it almost never got made because the first script didn't feature a single episode. Thankfully, David Chase completely rewrote the show and added some brutal deaths - with 88 unfortunate souls losing their lives across six seasons. At the centre was the late, great James Gandolfini as mob king Tony Soprano, who struggled to balance family life while running a dangerous criminal organisation. While several of the show's cast members were famous before they joined it propelled many into stardom and made household names out of Gandolfini, Edie Falco and Lorraine Bracco. The Sopranos paved the way for other violent crime shows and without … [Read more...] about The Sopranos cast now – tragedy, failed music career and vegan pasta sauces
Inside the Ambitious Plan to Monetize the Beach Boys’ Legacy
When Carl Wilson died of cancer in 1998, his sons Jonah and Justyn became heirs to their father’s estate. That meant joining with surviving Beach Boys founders Mike Love , Brian Wilson , and Al Jardine to vote on key business decisions, from archival releases to commercials. It wasn’t easy. “The dynamic changed a lot after our father passed,” says Jonah, who was in his late twenties at the time. “Not to say it was all negative, but we had a lot of challenges.” Adds Justyn, “In the beginning, it was just trying to navigate a very complicated group of individuals.” These days, Carl’s sons are more optimistic. They recently came together with the founding members to make a major decision: The band has sold a controlling interest in the Beach Boys’ intellectual property — including their master recordings, a portion of their publishing, the Beach Boys brand, and memorabilia — to Iconic Artists Group, a new company run by longtime music business power player Irving Azoff . … [Read more...] about Inside the Ambitious Plan to Monetize the Beach Boys’ Legacy

Mick Jagger Recruits Dave Grohl for New Song on Pandemic Life, ‘Eazy Sleazy’
Mick Jagger has enlisted Dave Grohl for a new song, “Eazy Sleazy.” The track finds Jagger tackling life during the pandemic, with a mix of frustration, exhaustion and humor. In one verse, he sings about refusing to try a TikTok dance and falling on his ass in a samba class, while later he challenges “deep state” believers and other conspiracy theorists. The chorus, however, is packed with optimism for the post-pandemic future as Jagger sings, “We escaped from the prison walls/Open the windows and open the doors/But it’s easy easy/Everything’s gonna get really freaky/Alright on the night/It’s gonna be a garden of earthly delights.” Jagger and Grohl co-wrote “Eazy Sleazy,” with the former handling guitar and vocals, and the latter playing drums, guitar and bass. The song was produced by Jagger’s longtime musical collaborator Matt Clifford, who also produced Jagger’s two 2017 songs , “Gotta Get a Grip” and “England Lost.” Related Stories Mick Jagger Has Some Thoughts … [Read more...] about Mick Jagger Recruits Dave Grohl for New Song on Pandemic Life, ‘Eazy Sleazy’
