Fed Chair Warns of ‘Different Economy’ Post-Pandemic But Sees ‘Brighter Outlook’ Amid Reopenings

US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell warned leading economists and bankers on Thursday that while good things lay in store for the US economy as the COVID-19 pandemic draws to a close, the nation won’t simply return to status quo ante coronavirus. “There are a number of factors that are coming together to support a brighter outlook for the US economy,” Powell said Thursday during the spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, the two major pillars of Western-centered system of international monetary management born after World War II. While he noted those factors put the US “on track to allow a full reopening of the economy fairly soon,” he cautioned that “It’s important to remember we’re not going back to the same economy. Resident Evil Village Brings Back Mercenaries Mode With First-Person View And New Features

Resident Evil Village will see the return of the arcade-style shooter mode The Mercenaries, a fan-favorite addition that we last saw in the franchise in Resident Evil 6 . But while the gist of the mode retains its similarities to what we've seen of The Mercenaries in the past--it's a fast-paced game type that focuses on killing enemies as quickly as you can to advance--the mode is getting a few new elements in Resident Evil Village that will change how it plays in some significant ways. America’s next ‘energy diplomat’ must thread a difficult needle

The next Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources will assume the office at a pivotal time both in terms of U.S. energy security and global economic statecraft. The role has no rulebook, training program, or safety net — but it is critical for America and free nations around the world that our next “energy diplomat” succeed. The State Department is the foundation of America’s security apparatus, and energy diplomacy is — at its core — a matter of national security. Throughout history, nations have sought to coerce rivals by restricting or controlling critical resources. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger understood this lesson well. In response to the 1970s oil embargo, he co-founded the International Energy Agency in order to provide a countermeasure against the “oil weapon.” Today, America’s private sector-led energy abundance offers countries an alternative to Russian energy dependence and a buffer against countries like Iran that use oil sales to fund terrorism. … [Read more...] about America’s next ‘energy diplomat’ must thread a difficult needle

Paul Mandl, team leader of the ARISE Plus Programme (left) and Igor Driesmans, EU Ambassador to ASEAN It has been only a few months since the launch of the ACTS. How important is the ACTS in terms of regional trade flows and socio-cultural cooperation, and what other benefits will it provide? Igor Driesmans: The ACTS is a vital building block of ASEAN economic integration. It acts as a catalyst for the development of seamless and efficient transport flows among ASEAN member states, facilitating regional trade in goods through standardised and harmonised customs procedures. Thanks to its sophisticated and powerful IT system, the ACTS can track regional transit cargo movements from departure to destination. In addition, the digital network enables pre-arrival processing by customs at borders and destination, providing for advanced risk management for the protection of society. Major advantages are in place for reliable traders, permitting door-to-door loading and delivery … [Read more...] about ACTS eyes expansion to benefit from regional trade flows
