Bengaluru: The ePlane Company , a startup that is trying to build flying electric taxis to alleviate congestion in cities, has raised around $1 million in a seed funding round led by Speciale Invest and Indian American entrepreneur-investor Naval Ravikant. The round, which is expected to help the startup through its prototyping stage in the next one year, also saw participation of Java Capital, FirstCheque.vc and Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad’s CIIE incubator. Incubated out of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, the company was founded by Satya Chakravarthy, a professor of aerospace engineering at the institute, along with Pranjal Mehta, who graduated from IIT Madras in 2019. Together with a team of around 15 engineers, the duo has tested a small-scale unmanned prototype of its flying electric taxi and is on track to build and fly a larger model with a 50 kg payload by mid-2021. “We’re building flying taxis for door-to-door commuting in cities, and while … [Read more...] about The ePlane Company raises $1 million to build a flying electric taxi
Today, I received this email: "I am boarding a JetBlue flight later today in the afternoon. I was kind off working my emotions but then I read the news on the lion air flight and I’m pretty messed up now any quick tips?" I replied, What happens in developing countries has nothing to do with your safety where aviation technology is well-developed. There are a number of new low cost airlines trying to outdo each other at cost- cutting and at growing rapidly. The low pay doesn't attract competent pilots and mechanics. The EU banned all ll Indonesian airline companies from flying into the EU until recently due to safety concerns. Currently banned airlines are listed here . It’s awful. And, though meeting safety standards is a serious problem there, is not a problem here. Here, we have not had a crash of a major airline in over 15 years. After I answered the email, I looked into Lion Air Further I found this on Wikipedia : 14 January 2002. A Lion Air 737 crashed … [Read more...] about Does the Lion Air Crash Cause You Concern About Your Flying?
Holly Willoughby is showing her support for the NHS by flying a flag baring its logo from her home. The This Morning presenter's tribute to the health service says "NHS - We thank you" in its famous shade of blue and is proudly flying from the roof of her £3million South London house, according to The Sun . Her six-bedroom property, which she and her husband Dan Baldwin bought in 2011, has a huge tower dating back to the 1800s in the middle of the roof, likening it to a castle. The couple have added a flag and flagpole to the tower, which previously had a Union Jack flying from it. Neighbours were said to have complained about the patriotic display. One neighbour told The Mirror at the time: "We don't hang the Union Jack or St George flag outside our properties, so why should she? "It's not really becoming of the area. "The Tower house is one of the oldest in the neighbourhood, and has a very prominent tower, but it's never had a Union Jack on it before. It's always … [Read more...] about Holly Willoughby pays tribute to NHS by flying blue flag at her ‘castle mansion’
A do-it-yourself market in technology always establishes not just inventions, but also a culture. That's certainly the case for the drone racing culture that has sprung up in the last five years, where enthusiasts cobble together drones from parts , complete with virtual reality glasses and audio-video systems to send the live feed from their drones to the goggles, to give one the feeling of racing at two hundred miles an hour through backyards and living rooms. There's tons of footage of competitive races at blogs such as The Tiny Whoop . Hence, stepping into that marketplace, for any consumer vendor, is a challenge, because it means taking on a culture. That's the challenge that DJI, one of the world's most prominent drone makers, has set for itself with its first entrée into what is called FPV drones, for "first person view." With a shape more bug-like than any of those, DJI's FPV went on sale Tuesday for $1,299 , sporting a set of virtual reality goggles. The company is … [Read more...] about Virtually flying there: DJI unveils its first FPV drone
