WHILE some people are looking to help, especially in times of dire need like during this Covid-19 pandemic, they may not know how or where to start. Many local non-governmental organisations (NGOs) always welcome any extra hands they can get for their numerous charitable activities. SOLS Health Established in 2014 under SOLS 24/7 Foundation, SOLS Health is a community mental health centre in Kuala Lumpur that offers accessible individual, family and community services with an emphasis on trauma-informed care and combating the stigma around mental health in Malaysia. It needs volunteers for projects, centre management, human resources and research as well as advocacy teams. SOLS Health research and advocacy director Dr Arman Rashid said: “Volunteering was not only about helping communities we serve, but also improving our own mental health with a renewed sense of purpose, meaning and motivation during the Covid-19 pandemic.” The NGO recently embarked on a collaborative … [Read more...] about NGOs on lookout for volunteers in various roles

Apple’s News app in iOS 9: All the news that fits, they print?
When Apple unveiled the News app in the WWDC keynote on Monday, my first reaction was glee. As a past participant in its Newsstand experiment , which is probably the best way to describe it, the News app had several characteristics that made it seem far superior for many purposes. By the evening, though, gloom had set in. Kindly Share This Story: As payment negates efficacy of security architecture By Gabriel Ewepu – Abuja As insecurity continues to be a nightmare to Nigerians, farmers under the auspices of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, AFAN, weekend, urged the government not to pay alleged ransom to bandits and kidnappers following grave implications it may pose to Nigerians. Speaking with Vanguard, the National President, AFAN, Arc Kabir Ibrahim, who lamented the negative impact of increased activities of banditry on food production and distribution in parts of the country, said payment of ransom encourages more kidnappers to go on with their activities to the detriment of farmers and other Nigerians. Ibrahim who has been calling for defoliation of the forest used as hideout by bandits and kidnappers said the government should consider high prices of foodstuff in the market and hardship farmers are going through. He said government should deploy … [Read more...] about Insecurity: Farmers urge govt on nonpayment of alleged ransom to bandits, kidnappers
