With healthcare workers having to be on their feet for long periods of time, some shoe companies have decided to lend their support by supporting them literally from the ground up. Crocs is giving out 10,000 free pairs of the rubber footwear a day, and will continue to do so as long as stocks are available. In an Instagram post on Friday (Mar 27), the company said there are "more than 400,000 people in line" and asked for "patience and understanding" as it keeps plugging away. According to CNN , Crocs CEO Andrew Rees talked to healthcare workers over the past week and found out that many in the industry requested specifically for the company’s footwear. “They specifically asked for our shoes in an effort to provide ease on their feet, as well as ease of mind as they need the ability to easily clean up before they go home to their families,” he said. SINGAPORE: Armed with a hidden camera in his shoe, a serial offender walked around shopping malls and his school, filming upskirt videos of multiple women over five years and getting arrested six times. Tham Heng Yew, 27, was sentenced on Wednesday (Mar 4) to 44 weeks' jail for 30 charges, mostly for insulting a woman's modesty. Another 138 charges were taken into consideration for sentencing. The court heard that Tham used his mobile phone to film videos of his female victims in dresses or skirts between July 2013 and July 2018. He would cut a hole in one of his shoes and place his phone in the altered footwear, with the video-recording function turned on and the camera facing up. SINGAPORE: A fundraising event aimed at raising funds for cardboard collectors was cancelled by its organisers after the police said on Friday (Dec 13) that it would require a permit as it politicises a social cause. The event - titled A Mile In Their Shoes – "Leaders of Singapore" Fundraiser Special - was due to take place on Saturday. The event organisers Happy People Helping People had invited local political party representatives to collect cardboard across Singapore in areas like Ang Mo Kio, Toa Payoh, Chinatown, Jalan Besar and Bedok. "Participants will get to experience cardboard collecting first-hand and hopefully will share their experiences in parliament and help solve the growing impoverished elderly problem among our senior citizens," it said in a Facebook post. MOSCOW: Russian customs officers have detained a woman at the Chinese border with nearly 2kg of gold in her shoes after she appeared to be walking strangely, authorities said on Tuesday (Nov 5). The Russian was detained at a customs post in eastern Siberia after officials noticed that she "was nervous and acted in a suspicous manner", said Marina Boiko, a spokeswoman for the regional customs authorities. "The young woman unnaturally placed one foot in front of the other," she said in a statement. A search led to the discovery of eight pieces of gold weighing a total of nearly 1.9kg. "The ingots had been attached to the insoles of her shoes with duct tape," the statement said, adding that the value of the find is estimated at more than 5 million rubles (US$79,000).
