S&P 500, Nasdaq set to bounce back after rout

REUTERS: Futures tracking the S&P 500 were subdued on Friday following a sharp pullback on Wall Street as tech-related stocks rebounded but sentiment remained fragile, with U.S. bond yields at one-year high. Shares of Apple Inc, Amazon.com Inc, Microsoft Corp and Alphabet Inc edged up in premarket trading, but were headed for their worst week in months. The benchmark 10-year U.S. Treasury yield eased to 1.478per cent after jumping 1.614per cent overnight, roiling stock markets. Wall Street's fear gauge hovered at a one-month high. "If rates continue to move that quickly, the markets wouldn't like that," said Eric Diton, President and Managing Director at The Wealth Alliance in New York. "I don't see reasons for panic out there. This is simply a normal overdue pullback." The Nasdaq on Thursday notched its worst daily percentage drop since October. The major averages were knocked off their all-time highs last week after a sharp rise in U.S. Treasury yields triggered a … [Read more...] about S&P 500, Nasdaq set to bounce back after rout

About 500 direct telemedicine service providers declared to meet MOH’s measures, added to listing

SINGAPORE: Close to 500 direct telemedicine service providers have declared to meet the Ministry of Health's (MOH) process and governance measures and have been listed on its website as of Feb 22. The Health Ministry has introduced a voluntary listing of direct telemedicine service providers to help patients "make an informed choice" when selecting a provider, the ministry said on Friday (Feb 26). This list will comprise service providers that have committed to meeting essential training, process and governance measures that are stipulated by MOH. "Telemedicine is increasingly becoming an important feature of our healthcare landscape, by offering greater convenience, improving accessibility to medical care and medications, and strengthening continuity of care," the ministry said. The service complements the functions of general practitioners, polyclinics, specialists and the immediate and long-term care sector, it added. "In the past year, telemedicine has been an important … [Read more...] about About 500 direct telemedicine service providers declared to meet MOH’s measures, added to listing

Nearly S$500 million disbursed to 15,600 first-time HDB flat buyers under Enhanced CPF Housing Grant

SINGAPORE: Applying for a Build-to-Order (BTO) flat had always been the plan for 26-year-old Mr Toh Jin Ann and his girlfriend Ms Jaslin Chong, who have been dating for four years. In late 2019, they settled on a BTO launch in Tengah, with the intention of getting a five-room unit so Mr Toh’s parents could move in with them. But finances were a concern for the young couple. “Because she was working part-time and I was still studying when we applied for the BTO, the down payment was our major concern,” said Mr Toh, who graduated last year. Those concerns were eased when they received S$80,000 in grants under the Enhanced CPF Housing Grant (EHG) by the Housing & Development Board (HDB). That is the maximum sum under the grant. “We could use it to settle the down payment issue, and it really made us feel more at ease. We don’t have to worry so much about the money,” he told CNA. They are among the roughly 15,600 first-time HDB flat buyers who have benefitted from the EHG, … [Read more...] about Nearly S$500 million disbursed to 15,600 first-time HDB flat buyers under Enhanced CPF Housing Grant

South Korea’s new COVID-19 cases exceed 500 for second consecutive day

SEOUL: South Korea reported more than 500 new COVID-19 cases for the second consecutive day on Friday (Nov 27), a level not seen in nearly nine months, as a third wave of infections spreads nationwide and authorities scrambled to provide more hospital beds. The daily tally of 569 came a day after the numbers hit the highest level since Mar 6, when South Korea was reeling from the first major COVID-19 epidemic outside China. READ: South Korea reports biggest COVID-19 spike since March Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun warned that daily infections could swell to 1,000 and bring a greater crisis including hospital bed shortages if social distancing measures and other restrictions failed to stop the contagion. "The situation is extremely serious and acute, as all of the 17 metropolitan cities and provinces and especially all the 25 districts in Seoul are reporting new cases," Chung told a meeting on COVID-19 responses. The government reimposed strict social distancing rules on … [Read more...] about South Korea’s new COVID-19 cases exceed 500 for second consecutive day

Over 500 PMC vehicles don’t meet motor norms

RTI filed by city activist reveals cars, trucks in question are over 15 years old The Union government in December last year had brought in amendments to the central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Accordingly, it had directed vehicles that are older than 15 years be scrapped. The move aims at stimulating the adoption of eco-friendly vehicles and ensuring that pollution levels go down in the country, which is reeling from deteriorating air quality in several major cities. Subsequently, regional transport authorities already started taking action against old private vehicles plying in the city. The city traffic police have also jumped into the bandwagon and started penalising vehicles that do not make the cut, including two-wheelers with missing mirrors and other safety gears, which authorities insist could lead to accidents. A petition filed under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2015, has now revealed that Pune Municipal Corporation ( PMC ) has over 500 different … [Read more...] about Over 500 PMC vehicles don’t meet motor norms
