The idle mind is the devil’s workshop, as they say, and with many people in self-isolation getting increasingly restless, it was just a matter of time before the latest Instagram challenge would pop up. If you’ve been scrolling through your Instagram feed and have been perplexed by the various unflattering or embarrassing photos of your friends that show up seemingly randomly, what they’re doing is participating in the Until Tomorrow Challenge. It entails posting an older, bad-looking photo of yourself on Instagram and leaving it up for the next 24 hours. REUTERS: Stoke City have fined midfielder James McClean two weeks' wages for posting an "inappropriate" picture on social media, the Championship club said on Friday. The Instagram post showed the Irishman wearing a balaclava, which has strong connotations with the Irish Republican Army (IRA). The image showed him with his children and featured a message that said he was teaching them a "history lesson". "I never wanted to cause any offence but I now realise that I did so and for that I apologise unreservedly," McClean, 30, said in a statement. "I have spoken to the club and will be deleting my Instagram account." The Irishman has been previously targeted by opposing fans and on social media for refusing to wear a Remembrance Day poppy. Instagram unveiled a new feature Tuesday (Mar 24) allowing users to connect more easily over video and shared content as part of a move to ease isolation stemming from the coronavirus pandemic. The Facebook-owned image-centric social network also announced new efforts to promote reliable content about the outbreak and stop the spread of misinformation Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, told journalists the new "co-watching" feature allows people to connect around online content while video chatting. This is becoming more important with many people around the world cut off from friends and family due to "shelter in place" orders. "We can play a role in helping to sort of combat that loneliness," he said. INSTAGRAM has launched a new feature called Live Rooms that will let you chat with up to three friends at the same time. It's a bit different from other virtual chat platforms because anyone will be able to watch your live conversation. Previously, only two people were able to be involved in a live chat on Instagram. Live Rooms has changed that to a maximum of four. Instagram has suggested people could use the feature for talk show or podcast purposes. The feature started rolling out globally on March 1 and should soon be avaliable to everyone.
