The man, 49, tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at random at Thanh Vu Polyclinic in Bac Lieu city,. The patient lives in Soc Trang province, another Mekong Delta locality in southern Vietnam. On February 27 he travelled to Bac Lieu city together with six neighbours, seeking a job at a wind farm there. A farm employee took him to Thanh Vu Polyclinic for COVID-19 testing and it came to the man as a surprise that he has carried the virus. The source of infection is still unknown, said doctors. Local authorities immediately isolated the man and his neighbours, and quickly conducted field investigations to early detect and quarantine other suspect cases. The provincial Centre for Disease Control transferred the man’s sample to Ho Chi Minh City Pasteur Institute for confirmation. If the result is confirmed, Bac Lieu is the 14th locality that has reported the emergence of the virus in Vietnam. Illustrative image (Photo: VNA) Bac Lieu (VNA) - The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu has adopted a wide range of measures to raise awareness and legal understanding among local fishermen about preventing and fighting illegal fishing . The provincial fisheries industry has witnessed strong development over recent years, contributing significantly to increasing incomes for fishermen. Debt swaps could free funds to tame climate, biodiversity and COVID-19 threats
LONDON: In Kenya, the coronavirus pandemic has dried up eco-tourism, cutting off sources of funding that help protect wildlife and pay an income to communities working to preserve nature. But forgiving a share of Kenya's hefty foreign debt, in exchange for the government devoting those resources to fighting climate change threats and biodiversity loss, could tackle several big problems at once, researchers said on Tuesday (Sep 8). "As part of pandemic economic rescue packages, governments have an opportunity to address simultaneously the crises of debt, climate and biodiversity destruction," researchers from the London-based International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) wrote in a report. It ranks countries that would benefit most from such "debt swaps" based on their vulnerability to climate change, richness of biodiversity, indebtedness and creditworthiness. At the top of the list are Cape Verde – an island nation off the coast of West Africa – Vietnam, … [Read more...] about Debt swaps could free funds to tame climate, biodiversity and COVID-19 threats
