What is Epic Games’ metaverse? And what does Fall Guys have to do with it?

Fortnite developer Epic Games continues to make power plays in its quest to become a true superpower. In recent months, it’s locked down more high-profile exclusives for the Epic Games Store, introduced an uncanny new character-creation tool , and now bought one of the hottest studios on the market in Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout developer Mediatonic. It’s clear that something big is brewing behind the scenes at Epic, but what exactly is it? The company has been clear about its plans for years — it’s trying to build the metaverse. The more moves Epic makes, the more that science fiction dream becomes a looming reality. What exactly is a metaverse and what does a cute elimination game about sentient jellybeans have to do with it? Here’s what to expect from Epic’s ambitious vision for the future. What is a metaverse? If the word “metaverse” sounds like something out of science fiction media, that’s because it quite literally is. The term first appeared in the 1992 … [Read more...] about What is Epic Games’ metaverse? And what does Fall Guys have to do with it?

No Need For Speed Until 2022, Game Delayed So Dev Can Help On Battlefield 6

The next Need for Speed game has been delayed to 2022. EA confirmed that Criterion Games has been called in to help DICE with the next Battlefield game, in what EA Studios boss Laura Miele calls a "bold move" to help the project finish coming together. Miele told Polygon that the fact that EA just bought racing game studio Codemasters, which will release a new game this year, made it easier to reassign Criterion to Battlefield. [ Update: EA has now released a statement with commentary from Miele about the news; you can see it below] "[Battlefield] is shaping up great, the team has been working incredibly hard, they pushed hard last year, and yes, we have been working from home," she said. "And it's hard; it's hard to make games from home, and the [EA DICE] team is fatigued a bit. We have a great game and some incredible potential with this game. We're playing to win; we're playing to put a great Battlefield game out in the market." Criterion already has a lot of familiarity … [Read more...] about No Need For Speed Until 2022, Game Delayed So Dev Can Help On Battlefield 6

The Division 2 to get a game mode entirely new to the franchise late 2021

The Division 2 will get a game mode entirely new to the franchise in its next major update, currently slated for late 2021. Ubisoft Massive said it's also looking at new ways for players to progress their agent "with an emphasis on increasing build variety and viability". This new update is still in the early stages of development, Ubisoft Massive cautioned, and will take several months to complete. So, it's due out late 2021 at the earliest. "We will be taking this time to make sure we bring a meaningful change to the game," Ubisoft Massive said in a blog post . In the meantime, Ubisoft Massive will "re-run" previous seasons released during The Division 2's second year. So, the next season (Season 5) will be a re-run of Season 2. Ubisoft Massive said this will give players the chance to collect rewards and collectibles previously missed. Players can also expect regular Leagues and Global Events, new Apparel Events and some minor title updates focused on game health. Call of Duty: Warzone squad sets new world record with an astonishing 162 kills in a single game

A Call of Duty: Warzone squad has set a new world record with an astonishing 162 kills in a single game. The squad, led by 21-year-old American Warzone streamer Aydan "Aydan" Conrad, achieved the astonishing feat in a 2v2 $500 kill race wager match. Here, a squad of four divides itself into two to see which duo can score the most kills in a single game. Smashing the previous quads world record of 143, Aydan and co tear up Verdansk at a frightening pace, starting off with a kill using a helicopter's blades. After snagging his loadout, Aydan uses his fearsome AUG and FFAR 1 combo to hunt down pretty much every player on the map with brutal efficiency. Aydan, who is, yes, wearing a sweaty Roze skin , does die a few times in the match, first returning to the battlefield via a gulag victory and thereafter bought back by his teammates. It's while waiting for the gulag to begin he realises his squad is on course to break the quads world record. It's worth remembering this lobby was … [Read more...] about Call of Duty: Warzone squad sets new world record with an astonishing 162 kills in a single game

NBA’s best players gather for All-Star Game like no other

(CNN) It is typically a time where the great and good of the NBA showcase their unique skills to an assembled crowd of fans and A-list celebrities. But in 2021, like many other things in life, the NBA All-Star Game will be a little different. Only a very limited number of invited guests will be allowed to watch the best the league has to offer on March 7 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The main event of the day will still be the All-Star Game -- where the league's best players duke it out -- with the skills challenge and the three-point contest happening beforehand. The high flying slam dunk contest will take place at half time. The Rising Stars match, the league's annual showcase of premier young talent, is not taking place this year due to the limitation of having All-Star events just on one night. Read More As well as putting on a show, the NBA and National Basketball Players Association has announced that they will commit more than $2.5 million in … [Read more...] about NBA’s best players gather for All-Star Game like no other
