Sign here first: US salons, gyms, offices require coronavirus waivers

REUTERS: As U.S. businesses reopen after weeks of pandemic lockdowns, many have been posting coronavirus disclaimers or requiring employees and patrons to sign waivers before entering. From hair salons and recreation centers to stock exchanges and wedding photographers, the notices have sprung up across the country, asking guests to acknowledge they might contract a disease that has so far killed over 100,000 Americans. Companies are using signs, forms and website postings as a shield against lawsuits, but the measures do not prevent people from seeking damages due to negligence, the same way someone might sue after falling on a slippery floor or getting sick from walls covered in lead paint, experts said. Lawyers said it would be tough to prove a business caused a customer's illness, but concerns are so intense that a waiver may soon become the new normal. Entities including the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City, a real estate agency in Arizona, a racecar speedway in Seinsgrove, … [Read more...] about Sign here first: US salons, gyms, offices require coronavirus waivers

Woman fined for letting customer into her salon for massage and masturbation during COVID-19 circuit breaker

SINGAPORE: A woman who let a customer into her salon for massage and masturbation services during the "circuit breaker" was fined S$22,000 for her actions on Wednesday (Jun 10). Jin Yin, 55, paid the fine in full. The jail term in lieu of the fine was eight weeks' jail. Jin pleaded guilty to one charge of providing unlicensed massage and masturbation services, and a second charge of failing to ensure that her salon was closed during the circuit breaker, when non-essential businesses were not allowed to operate. A third charge of advertising her unlicensed services was taken into consideration. This is the first prosecution of Regulation 9 of the COVID-19 regulations, which states that non-essential businesses must close their premises during the circuit breaker. The court heard that Jin owned the In-Style Beauty Salon at Block 34 Upper Cross Street, across from the State Courts. She knew that the circuit breaker measures were in place from Apr 7, 2020, and received a … [Read more...] about Woman fined for letting customer into her salon for massage and masturbation during COVID-19 circuit breaker

COVID-19: Customers flock to hair salons after circuit breaker measures ease

SINGAPORE: Hairdressers and barbers across Singapore took out their scissors for the first time in weeks on Tuesday (May 12), snipping off the overgrown locks of an endless stream of customers, as the Government relaxed some "circuit breaker" measures. After three weeks of suspension amid enhanced circuit breaker measures announced on Apr 21, certain shops and services were allowed to resume operations on Tuesday - albeit with certain restrictions and precautions. Basic haircuts at hairdressers and barbers have been allowed to resume, but this must be done within an hour. Judge rejects plea by woman who allowed customer into salon for massage and masturbation

SINGAPORE: A woman accused of allowing a customer into her salon for massage and masturbation during the "circuit breaker" period had her guilty plea rejected on Wednesday (May 13) after she could not stop crying in court. Jin Yin, 55, was set to plead guilty to charges related to an incident on Apr 10, when she allowed a 67-year-old man into her In-Style Beauty Salon opposite the State Courts. There, she allegedly provided massage and masturbation services to him for S$150. However, Jin repeatedly sobbed and wailed in court on Wednesday until District Judge Ong Hian Sun said he would have to reject her plea as he felt she was not in the right frame of mind to plead guilty. The judge had stood down the case twice for Jin to compose herself, but she continued sobbing despite the interpreter coaxing her. Several security officers were also consoling her in court. When Jin heard that the prosecution was asking for a S$21,000 fine, she dropped to her knees and began … [Read more...] about Judge rejects plea by woman who allowed customer into salon for massage and masturbation

Woman charged with allowing customer into salon for massage and masturbation during circuit breaker period

SINGAPORE: At a time when most non-essential businesses were ordered closed, a woman allegedly kept her beauty salon open and allowed a man to enter for massage and masturbation services. Jin Yin, 55, was charged on Wednesday (Apr 29) with failing to ensure her In-Style Beauty Salon at Block 34 Upper Cross Street was closed on Apr 10, three days after the start of Singapore's "circuit breaker" period to stem the spread of COVID-19. She is accused of allowing 67-year-old Chan Fun Hwee into the premises and providing massage and masturbation services to him for S$150 between 1pm and 2.30pm that day. Jin was also given two other charges of carrying on a massage business without a licence under the Massage Establishments Act and advertising the business. She paid an agent to put up an advertisement on Locanto.sg to offer massage and masturbation services, the charge sheet stated. Jin, who was unrepresented, told the court through tears that she wanted to plead guilty and … [Read more...] about Woman charged with allowing customer into salon for massage and masturbation during circuit breaker period
