M.I.A. has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money to aid those affected by the recent volcanic eruption of La Soufrière in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. “I’ve never set up a crowdfunding page before, but as you may know Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has been very close to my heart,” she wrote on her Instagram. “I wrote my first song there. Since going to Sri Lanka is out of the question for political reasons, it’s been my island away from my island for the last 20 years.” “La Soufrière has caused massive devastation on a scale that has not been witnessed by the residents in the last 40 years,” she continued. “The situation today is that there’s been power cuts and water scarcity. Everything is covered by ash. Photo: Scott Garfield/Courtesy of Columbia Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures From directing 2004’s King Arthur, Antoine Fuqua learned a key lesson about building new movies out of old material. “Make it your own, but be conscious of the things that mean a lot to people,” he says. “When you bend it too far, it gets hard for people to wrap their heads around.” Fuqua drew on that lesson while making the new Magnificent Seven , out September 23, a remake of the 1960 Western about a group of gunfighters who defend a town of innocent Mexican villagers, itself adapted from Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. “I remember looking up the definition of the word samurai when I was younger, and finding out it meant ‘to serve,’ ” Fuqua says. Soludo’s monarch orders cleansing of community
Kindly Share This Story: By Vincent Ujumadu Following the recent attack on the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Professor Chukwuma Soludo during a town hall meeting with youths in the area, the traditional ruler of Isuofia, Igwe (Col) Muoghalu has ordered the spiritual cleansing of the town. Three police orderlies of the former CBN governor were killed during the attack by unknown gunmen, while the Anambra State Commissioner for Public Utilities, Mr. Emeka Ezenwanne, who was at the venue, was also kidnapped. He has, however, regained his freedom. Igwe Muoghalu, who spoke through his palace secretary, Chief Chukwujekwu Orajiuka, condemned the killing of the policemen and the kidnap of the commissioner. Silver Lining Entertainment Productions Inks First-Look Deal With A+E Studios
A+E Studios has entered into a multi-year first-look television development and production deal with management and production company Silver Lining Entertainment Productions . Silver Lining, led by partners Jeff Golenberg, Sam Maydew and Rob Golenberg, already has a number of projects in development at A+E Studios. The company has acquired the podcast and underlying rights for Soul Incarcerated, a project based on the musicians in the band Edge of Darkness and the album they recorded while incarcerated, Eyes of Love. Dorian Missick, Warren Ostergard and Jamie Pietras are attached to produce, and a search for a writer is underway. Silver Lining also has set up End Times, a comedy about the rapture and those left behind, from Black List writer Brit McAdams, and female-driven thriller Nightshade from up-and-coming writer Jessica Granger.
