Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai hopes new partnership with Apple TV+ will “reach young women and girls”
In 2014, Malala Yousafzai, an advocate for girls education who survived a Taliban assassination attempt in Pakistan, became – at age 17 – the youngest person ever to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Today, Yousafzai and Apple are announcing a new partnership. The 23-year-old human rights activist will be producing content exclusively for Apple TV+ . Apple CEO Tim Cook told "CBS This Morning" she is the perfect addition to their streaming service. "Well, I remember myself, as young as 11 years old, looking at myself in the mirror, trying to imagine there's a crowd of people that I'm giving a speech, reminding people to speak out for their rights," Yousafzai said. "And then I was there at a stage speaking at the U.N., speaking at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony. "And today, you know, I just can't believe that I have graduated from university, I have finished my education." "CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King said, "I look at you and I go, 'Wow, you grew up! When did that … [Read more...] about Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai hopes new partnership with Apple TV+ will “reach young women and girls”

OK Google, crank the A/C: Nest announces new smart home API
Google officially closed a deal to buy Nest Labs for $3.2 billion back in February of 2014. Since then, both companies have been mostly quiet about their plans other than to respond to questions about privacy matters and butt into the related business of home security by buying Dropcam for $555 million . Today, in advance of Google I/O, Nest has officially announced a new developer program and API that will allow other companies' smart devices to communicate with Nest's Protect smoke alarm and Learning Thermostat . Among the companies that Nest is partnering with for this initial publicity push are IFTTT , Jawbone, LIFX , Logitech, Mercedes-Benz, Whirlpool, Chamberlain , and Google itself—the latter two companies will release Nest-compatible features this fall, while the others are all available today. All of the companies' "Works with Nest experiences" focus on making Nest devices more useful when used together with other smart home gadgets—if the Nest Protect … [Read more...] about OK Google, crank the A/C: Nest announces new smart home API
GameStop Restocks PS5, Xbox Series: What You Need To Know
Getting your hands on a PS5 or Xbox Series X remains a crapshoot even now a good long while after pre-orders first opened, but restocks are starting to come more regularly, and resale prices are at least coming down off of their astronomical December highs. I’m seeing more and more people on my timeline celebrating getting their hands on a new console, so that means that at least some of these machines are filtering out into the general public. And there’s a restock coming to GameStop today, January 21: here’s what you need to know. Retailers do this pretty frequently to avoid swamping websites and possibly to gain a slight edge on resellers, but that unfortunately means you need to pay extra close attention if you want to get one. One place the announcement will definitely come through is on the GameStop Twitter … [Read more...] about GameStop Restocks PS5, Xbox Series: What You Need To Know
