(Photo: VNA) Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank ( VPBank ) has jumped 37 spots to enter the Brand Finance’s top 250 in rankings of the world’s most valuable banks in 2021. According to the Brand Finance Banking 500 2021 ranking , VPBank ranked 243rd in banking brand value this year. Its brand value grew 41 percent to 502 million USD this year from 354 million USD in 2019. It also represents a nine-fold increase against 2016 when the bank’s brand value was first evaluated at 56 million USD. World’s largest cricket stadium hosts its first Test match
(CNN) The world's largest cricket stadium hosted its first Test match on Wednesday. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India, hosted the third in a four-match series between India and England, the first Test match it has hosted since its refurbishment. Originally constructed in 1982 with a capacity on 42,000, an impressive renovation plan was announced in October 2015, in which the capacity was increased to 110,000 spectators. The reconstruction plan, which was completed in February 2020, meant that the stadium surpassed the Melbourne Cricket Ground -- which has a capacity of 90,000 -- to become the world's largest cricket stadium. Korean Woman Becomes Director at World Bank
February 12, 2014 09:40 A Korean woman has been promoted to director at the World Bank. The bank on Tuesday said Water and Sanitation Program manager So Jae-hyang (52) has been appointed director of the Concessional Finance and Global Partnerships. That makes her the highest-ranking Korean at the World Bank. Two Koreans including former Hyundai Engineering and Construction chairman Chung Hoon-mok served as directors at the World Bank in the past, but they were not from the rank and file of the bank. So began working for the World Bank 22 years ago. World Bank President Jim Yong Kim is a Korean American who holds U.S. citizenship, but So is a Korean citizen. The Concessional Finance and Global Partnerships is in charge of managing funds to be provided to emerging countries. So was born in Seoul and moved to the U.S. after middle school. New World Bank Director ‘Committed to Reducing Poverty’
February 27, 2014 08:24 New World Bank director So Jae-hyang says she is committed to achieving the lender's goal of reducing poverty around the world. So, who became the highest-ranking Korean at the World Bank earlier this month, said she is pleased that her "passion and diligence," which she claimed are trademark characteristics of Korean workers, were recognized by the bank. The bank's president Jim Yong Kim is also an ethnic Korean, and it currently has about 50 employees of Korean descent. "I will try my best to assist Kim's goal of reducing the proportion of people living in abject poverty around the world to three percent by 2030," she said.
